It's been awhile...

Sorry it has been so long since the last post. We last posted around the end of November, which is right around the time that Mommy went back to work and our lives went haywire again. We had just gotten used to having baby in the house with Mommy around all the time, and now we are learning how to have baby in the house with Mommy gone a lot of the time. Always a new adventure.

Cade is still growing like a weed. He turned 3 months old this week, and we are moving into 3-6 month clothes, so he is right on schedule. He has learned how to "talk" in the past few weeks, and now he just chatters all day long. He greets us in the morning (usually earlier than we would like) with a smile and lots of goos & gagas!

We love having him in our lives, it is so amazing how someone so small can so quickly become such a big part!

I would love to write more, but it is 11:00pm and I still want to get some photos uploaded and maybe get a little sleep before someone wakes up for his middle-of-the-night snack!

Our love and Merry Christmas to you all!

WOW its time for a post!!

ya, ya ya, I know. I am a lazy daddy! I havent posted in FOREVER! But its time and we have some new info for ya!

Cade went to the doctor last week for his checkup! He is 12.5lbs and 23in. long, which puts him in the 75th percentile for both! So we have a good sized baby! Not too big not too little just perfect. But daddy is happy that he is bigger then average :) He has definately been getting his personality lately! He loves to giggle and make noise, especially when he wakes up in the morning! He also loves being in the tub! He can be all fussy and upset, but the second he gets in the tub with one of us he is all smiles! Even when he gets out of the tub he is happy, as long as he is naked. Once we try to put his clothes on.... WAAAAAAAA! What can I say, he loves being naked :)

I have been sick the last several days. So I havent been able to cuddle or kiss him :( it has been really hard! So he has gotten a lot of "blow bellies" to make up for it :) Caren went back to work yesterday as well. She was gone all day and it was pretty hard for her. But she made it and came home to a waiting baby. I on the other hand got to stay home with him all day! It was very interesting. I understand now how it is hard to get things done when watching a newborn. He needs so much stinking attention! I was able to get the dishes done but that was about all. But it was nice being home with him and being able to see what it is like to be Mr. mom :)

As of right now we only have to have a babysitter one day a week. I am working Sat-Tue with Wed-Fri off. This means we only need a sitter on Tuesdays. We have a couple girls in our church group willing to do it. So that is a great backup. But I think we are going to go with the mother of a woman at Carens work. She used to watch children for a living and she only lives 4 or 6 blocks from Carens work! Best yet she doesnt want any pay. She only wants us to donate some money to the Red Cross! So this is an answer to prayer :)

On the homefront things are good. Caren and I are getting used to eachother again :) Babies change lives thats for sure. Like I said, Caren is back at work and as much as she wants to be a stay at home mom, she really does love her job. So we will see where that goes. Things are going well at work for me as well. I just got a permemant car. People only get permenant cars when they do really well. And my car is the most sought after one in the district!! It is a partner car so I am in there with a really good friend of mine. Our job is basically to search the district for drugs and guns. We bump up everyone we see and see if we can get anything off of them. We have already gotten an "attaboy" from the brass up top and we only just started! So it is very exciting :) The puppies are doing great as well. They love their little boy and they are still stealing kisses ever time our backs are turned! And to anyone who knows them this should come as no suprise.

Lastly, we are going to get some christmas pictures taken next week! We have a really cute idea for the baby so we look forward to letting you all see the pics :) We love you all!

Week 6 and 7 pictures are up!

I have added week 6 and 7 photos to the blog. Including his cute chicken costume from halloween! And yes, there is a picture of Loki, because he wanted to get his picture taken too, while we were taking pictures of Cade!

I will have Eric write a longer blog sometime this week when he is off. My job is to get the pictures on the site, and his job is to write updates, so I will let him know he is slacking off on his job! :)

He is already a 5 weeks old!!!!

Crazy to think that little baby Cade is now 5 weeks old!! And let me tell you... He just keeps growing faster and faster!

Caren and I went to the hospital the other day and while we were there we weighed our little baby. It turns out that he isnt quite so little anymore! he is now 9.8 lbs! And that was about 5 days ago! But we werent very suprised. He is a hungry boy! He has a cute outfit that says it all... it says "Milk Monster" on it! We always smile when we see him wear it :)

Things are going pretty well for the most part. He is usually in a pretty good mood. We have found out that dairy products make his little tummy hurt. So Caren has to be careful with all that. Mexican may or may not hurt his tummy we havent quite figured it out yet. But hopefully it turns out to be something else (for Caren's sake). He is losing his hair starting in the front and moving back. So right now he has this nice soft hair, but its only in the back of his head :) It looks pretty funny. Its kind of a modified mullet!!! Poor guy! He is also getting a little thicker, not chubby yet mind you, just thicker.

I went back to work last night. It was pretty tough for me. I am excited to be back, but I miss my little family. Caren will be returning to work part time starting in December. She will then be back full time starting in January. Just in time for Tax Season! She is not looking forward to it. I know you all find it hard to believe, but Caren is in "Stay at home mom" mode! But at this point in our lives we think its smarter for Caren to keep working. Our schedules should allow us to only need a babysitter 1 day a week. So keep us in your prayers while we try to figure this out.

So now for a cute story:
Caren had a bowl of ice cream a couple nights back. It upset Cade's stomach and he was crying like a..... well, like a baby! We could'nt calm him down so after about 10 minutes Caren took him into the nursury and started rocking him. A couple minutes later Eisa trots into the room and drops something into Carens lap. It was Cade's pacifier!!!! Eisa just dropped it on Carens lap and looked up at her like, "Here you forgot this!" It was the most adorable thing ever!! The dogs are still doing great with him though. They look out for him and lay next to him all the time.

Well thats it for now. Hope you are all doing well. We have some new pics but I cant put them up at the moment because I am on work. I know I know. I should be out there catching criminals. But it is raining and cops melt in the rain :) Love you all!

week 2 synopsis

Eat, Sleep, Poop, Repeat

No seriously, that's about it.

The first two weeks of Cade's life have been pretty wonderful. Jim and Bonnie (Pappy and Bobby) were in town to help for the first week. Their help was GREATLY appreciated and we loved having them here (Even if they did drop off Jeff's and Amanda's evil gift of a Bronco's uniform :) ).

The second week of Cade;s life was spent with his other grandparents Chris and Cathy (Pappy and Grammy) Brett and Mindee were also here and we all had a great time. Once again we were very happy to have them here and we were sad to see them go.

Once the parents left we started settling in and getting used to it just being the 5 of us. We went to a big mall up north yesterday and enjoyed walking around. Caren was getting cabin fever and she loved getting out of the house. We went in a couple kids stores and got a few adorable outfits :) You can see 1 of them in the new pics below.

The Dogs adore him! Every time he makes a peep they run to check on him and then run to one of us obviously letting us know that he is making noise! They are a great brother and sister and we cant wait for them to grow up together!

Cade has been growing like a weed. Of course any kid who drinks this much boobie juice is bound to be huge. I guess we should have named him Magnus like I wanted. But oh well I love him just the same. He is sleeping at night pretty well. He gets up to feed every 3-4 hours and sometimes makes some grunting noises. Otherwise he does well.

People say that babies dont smile till they are 5 or 6 weeks. But I swear he has smiled at us a few time and it wasnt just gas! When he is awake he is happy just looking around and taking things in. He is an easy kid and we are VERY blessed. It is still pretty surreal though. We know we are parent but it still isnt sinking in.

We love you all and we thank you for sending gifts and making meals. We are blessed to have you all as friends and family and we love you all dearly!

Daddy's Award

My first trip out of the house on September 25th was to watch my Daddy get an award from the Police Department. Here is the article that was in the Denver Post.

DPD Honors Top Officers

Distinguished Service Cross

On March 8, Officers Andre Strode, Jason Meier, Christopher Griffith, and Eric Hill placed themselves between and woman and three children who were hiding from a wanted felon armed with a knife. The man refused to put it down and though the officers would have been justified to shoot the man, they got close enough to stop him with a Taser.

Birth Story

Short Version: Cade Christopher was born Tuesday September 16th (1 week overdue) at 7:49am after a successful induction. He weighed 7lbs. 4 ozs. and was 20 inches long.
Long Version: I woke up at 5:30am Sunday morning with the most intense contractions I had yet. All day Sunday I was hoping that this was it and we were about to give birth, but no matter what I did the contractions wouldn't get any closer than 7 minutes apart. They were really strong and painful, and some of them lasted as long as 3 minutes, but they never got close together. Needless to say I didn't get any sleep Sunday night. Monday morning I went and saw my midwife and was very disappointed to learn that all of the contractions for the past 36 hours had only moved me from 2cm to 3cm, and still 50% effaced. So she sent me home to wait for our scheduled induction at 9pm that night.
At 9pm we arrived at the hospital and were happy to find that I had progressed to 4cm, 80% effaced, and the baby had dropped from -2 station to 0 station. So the midwife decided to skip the first phase of induction with the cytotec (sp?) and proceed directly to Pitocin. She started me on the lowest dose of Pitocin at 11pm, and told me not to expect anything to happen for 2 hours. Within 30 minutes my contractions were 4 minutes apart and lasting 2 minutes. She checked me at 1am and I was 5cm and 100% effaced. Then things really got going, my contractions were coming right on top of each other with only about 30 seconds in between and were lasting 2 to 3 minutes. She checked me again at 2am and I was 6-7cm dialated. At this point I was in so much pain and wasn't getting any break in between the contractions so I opted for the epidural. Getting it put in wasn't as bad as I expected, just a little prick from the local they used to numb it. Unfortunately I did get a little sick from the initial dose of medicine and my wonderful Hubby had to hold the bucket while I puked for a few minutes (what a guy!). Then it completely kicked in and I was able to relax and get some sleep, which was amazing considering I hadn't really had any sleep for almost 2 days at this point. So I slept for a few hours, and by 6am we were ready to push.
We started pushing at 6am and he was born at 7:49am. This was definately the hardest part for me as I was tired and I was having some trouble moving him down. But I had a great midwife and nurse helping, and Eric was a great coach, trying to keep me motivated to get him out!! I did have a small internal tear and got about 10 stitches, but that isn't too bad. The hemorrhoids are far worse at this point! boo!
Baby Cade is doing great, so far he is just eating and sleeping.

New Site for Baby Cade!

Hello all!

Caren and I have created this new site for baby Cade. We had an issue with the old Xanga Site. I tried to put Cade's birth date as the birth date for the profile. Apparently this is in violation of their terms of service since Cade is under 13 yrs old! So they deleted the profile! I sent them a nice and nasty email and decided to use this site from now on:)

Caren and I will be posting more regularly now that Cade has been born. So expect the first one within the next day or two explaining the whole birth process. Caren would do it tonight except for the fact that she is a little tired. Cant for the life of me figure out why?!

Much love to all and thank you for your prayers

Eric, Caren and Cade
